Our hearts are heavy as we report that our dear sweet, kind, Elizabeth passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Nov 3, 2016. She became ill very quickly and despite our best efforts, we were unable to save her. While we do not know the exact cause, it is thought she developed an autoimmune response for an unknown reason, which caused her body to turn on itself.
Elizabeth came to us from a shelter around the end of September. An abandoned senior dog, incontinent and immobile, would be a death sentence in most shelters across the United States. Luckily for Elizabeth, she had dedicated shelter staff, a wonderful PPR foster volunteer and amazing PPR supporters on her side.
While certainly this is not the outcome we wanted, we can tell you that the last month and 1/2 of her life she was given a lifetime worth of love, and she was very, very happy. The gift of the wheelchair changed her life as she became mobile again. She absolutely loved her cart and would race around for hours. Her daily walks with her foster mom were her favorite. For our ability to give these 45 short days to Elizabeth, we are so grateful.
