What is a foster?
  • A foster is a person or family who provides a temporary home for a dog in need for Pacific Pug Rescue. We believe our dogs do best in a home, receiving dedicated one-on-one attention and care, rather than a shelter or kennel environment. These homes allow our dogs to decompress from the major change to their lives and receive the top quality love and care they deserve while they wait for their forever families. Our fosters provide us insight into their foster dog's personality and help us take photos and videos to share on social media to show to potential adopters. They are involved in the adoption review process and help meet with potential adoption matches with their foster dog.

How does fostering work?
  • Once you are approved to foster, our foster coordinator will reach out to you as dogs come in and based on your fostering preferences listed in your application, see if you are available to foster. Once you are matched with a foster dog, the foster coordinator will work with you on getting vet appointments scheduled and provide any medications or supplies the dog will need. You get to provide your foster dog with the love, care, and guidance while we get them ready for adoption and help match them with any potential adoptive families. If needed, you'll also be matched with a foster mentor who can help answer any fostering questions.

Why foster?
  • Foster families are critical to Pacific Pug Rescue's ability to save dogs. The more foster families we have, the more dogs in need we can take in. Ask any of our foster families and they can tell you how rewarding it is to help a dog find their happily ever after.
  • Fostering is also a great way to help a dog out in need when your circumstances may not allow for you to commit to adoption.
Interested in fostering? Here's a brief overview:

Pacific Pug Rescue will cover all approved medical, food, and grooming expenses for the dog while in our care.

To Foster, we have some basic requirements:
  • You should live within the Portland/Vancouver metro area and be able to travel within the area, as needed.
  • Allow Pacific Pug Rescue to conduct a home-check to be approved to foster, and have a living situation that allows for a dog in the home. All household members must be in agreement to allowing fostering in the home.

Foster families are expected to:
  • Provide a safe environment and lots of love for a rescue dog in transition.
  • Communicate with our foster coordinator regularly and help evaluate the dog, keeping us informed regarding their progress, personality, and any medical concerns.
  • Be able to share photos and videos of their foster dogs with us to share on social media and adoption pages, or let us know when a volunteer can stop by for a little photoshoot.
  • Transport their foster dog to vet appointments, outreach events and meetings with prospective adopters, as needed, or let us know if transportation help is needed.

If you have any additional questions about  becoming a foster parent, please email us. If you are ready to foster with us, please fill out the application below.
