Furever Fosters
What is a Furever Foster?
On occasion, some of our pugs come into the rescue with terminal illnesses, chronic medical conditions, or special emotional needs. While these dogs may be considered unadoptable due to their complex conditions, they are able to enjoy a good quality of life. For these special dogs, our foster families commit to providing love and care and Pacific Pug Rescue provides food, supplies and ongoing medical treatment for each of these dogs for the time they have left. This program is entirely funded by donations and sponsorships, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help these sweet Furever Fosters live full, happy, and comfortable lives.

Meet Our Current Furever Fosters
Adorable Diego traveled to Oregon from Mexico in November 2021 through an organization that rescues street dogs. He suffered from hip and patella deformities that greatly impacted his comfort and ability to live an active life of fun and frolic expected at his approximately 3 year age. Pacific Pug Rescue took him into care so he could receive the necessary medical care to correct his issues to ensure a happy, healthy life in a loving home as he so deserved. He had bilateral MPL surgery and began the long process of recovery and healing. He received wonderful rehab services though Healing Arts Animal Care and made a full recovery.
The blood panel taken prior to his dental cleaning and removal of decaying teeth indicated a concern regarding his kidneys. Sadly, further testing revealed chronic kidney failure which will dramatically reduce this sweet baby boy’s little life. Therefore, Diego will remain in his foster home where he is cherished and will continue to receive PPR’s support and expertise.
At this time, Diego is not experiencing negative symptoms and is soaking up life as part of a family of dogs, cats, and people who love him. He is filled with joy and excitement when his harness comes out for his daily walk through the neighborhood where he is becoming well known. He is playful and loves his stuffies (especially the sheep that is bigger than him!), is silly and curious, and is a champion snuggler who loves to burrow in a pile of soft, fuzzy blankets. Diego is looking forward to a summer of warm weather and new adventures.
Myrtle the Boston Terrier arrived to Pacific Pug Rescue after her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She hadn’t received vet care in such a long time, and her dental disease was so severe that she could barely eat. On top of that, she had a very large mammary tumor.
Myrtle had a dental surgery emergently and then several weeks later had her large tumor removed. The tumor was found to be cancerous but fortunately was completely excised. Myrtle's labs showed minor changes to her kidney values and a follow up lab after her surgeries were done, confirmed that she was suffering from early kidney disease and high blood pressure.
We made the decision to keep Myrtle in our Furever Foster program because of her age and multiple health issues. We will make sure she gets the best care and hope to have her around for a long time! She is enjoying her new life in her foster home with a senior pug friend , going camping with her foster dads and getting lots of love!
Punkin is a 14-year-old girl whose elderly owners could no longer care for her. She had been well loved but was in desperate need of a dental and general vet care. At her exam, lab-work showed her to be in early kidney failure and she also had high blood pressure.
We were able to get her dental, which has made her feel so much better and we have started treatment to take care of her kidneys and high blood pressure.
Punkin may be 14 but no one has let her know she should be slowing down, this girl has the energy of young dog! She adjusted to her new life seamlessly and is loving outings with her foster brother and sister. Punkin will be getting the best care and we hope to keep her along as long as possible. If you would like to help Punkin you can purchase a chewy gift card to help pay for her special prescription diet here.

Gunner was taken to the shelter to be euthanized because he had diarrhea and was losing weight. Sadly his family didn't even take him to a vet to find out why.
We were happy to take in Gunner and see if we could get him more comfortable. Through ultrasounds, CT scans, and specialist vet visits, we have found that Gunner has some GI disease and also a large liver tumor that was thought to be inoperable. Thankfully, after consulting with even more specialists, the large liver tumor was removed! Phew! Gunner has recovered well from his tumor removal, but still struggles with GI disease, which will require a lifetime of care and monitoring. We are committed to providing him ongoing treatment so he can do what pugs love most, eat well and be happy! He is feeling much better since we started a special diet and medication for his GI problems.
Gunner is such a happy dog. He loves his ball more than anything. One thing for sure is he has a lot of life left in him and he is taking advantage of this second chance at his life. Between Gunner's diagnostics, surgery, and ongoing treatment, his medical costs are quite a lot for our rescue, but we are grateful that we are able to give him more time and a good quality of life thanks to our supporters who donate to our seniors and medically complex dogs in the forever foster program.
Donations to Gunner help us cover his special food, medications and specialist visits.
13-year-old Cooper is a charming pug mix. His DNA reveals a fun blend of Pug, Chihuahua, Chinese Crested, and Pekingese...what a perfect mix!
Cooper's owner passed away and he was initially sent to live with a friend who then surrendered him to Pacific Pug Rescue. Cooper's health had been neglected for a while, so once in our care he received a much needed dental which made him feel much better! Cooper is now very healthy, but he's quite grumpy with new people. With patience and kindness he does come around, but despite our best efforts, we could not find anyone willing to put in the time and effort needed to work with Cooper.
Cooper thinks that is just fine, because he really loves his foster mom and is quite happy to stay put! Due of Cooper's behavioral issues, we decided it would be best if he stayed in our Furever Foster program to be cared for by a foster parent who really understands his quirks and allows for the best parts of him to shine by providing the patient and loving home he deserves.
Cooper has the cutest face and the sweetest eyes. He is very playful and has a surprising amount of energy for a 12-year-old pup. When you talk to him, he listens intently to everything you have to say. Cooper loves being a lap dog and a couch potato, watching TV while silently adoring you. He loves to cuddle and will reward you with abundant tail wags and kisses. Cooper is a loving, loyal, devoted dog.
