What is a Furever Foster?
On occasion, some of our pugs come into the rescue with terminal illnesses, chronic medical conditions, or special emotional needs. While these dogs may be considered unadoptable due to their complex conditions, they are able to enjoy a good quality of life. For these special dogs, our foster families commit to providing love and care for the time they have left. Pacific Pug Rescue provides food, supplies and ongoing medical treatment for each of these dogs for the rest of their lives. This program is entirely funded by donations and sponsorships, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help these sweet Furever Fosters live full, happy, and comfortable lives.

Meet Our Current Furever Fosters
Adorable Diego traveled to Oregon from Mexico in November 2021 through an organization that rescues street dogs. He suffered from hip and patella deformities that greatly impacted his comfort and ability to live an active life of fun and frolic expected at his approximately 3 year age. Pacific Pug Rescue took him into care so he could receive the necessary medical care to correct his issues to ensure a happy, healthy life in a loving home as he so deserved. He had bilateral MPL surgery and began the long process of recovery and healing.

Myrtle the Boston Terrier arrived to Pacific Pug Rescue after her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She hadn’t received vet care in such a long time, and her dental disease was so severe that she could barely eat. On top of that, she had a very large mammary tumor.
Myrtle had a dental surgery emergently and then several weeks later had her large tumor removed. The tumor was found to be cancerous but fortunately was completely excised. Myrtle's labs showed minor changes to her kidney values and a follow up lab after her surgeries were done, confirmed that she was suffering from early kidney disease and high blood pressure.

Punkin is a 14 year old girl whose elderly owners could no longer care for her. She had been well loved but was in desperate need of a dental and general vet care. At her exam, lab-work showed her to be in early kidney failure and she also had high blood pressure.
We were able to get her dental, which has made her feel so much better and we have started treatment to take care of her kidneys and high blood pressure.
Punkin may be 14 but no one has let her know she should be slowing down, this girl has the energy of young dog! She adjusted to her new life seamlessly and is loving outings with her foster brother and sister.

Gunner was taken to the shelter to be euthanized because he had diarrhea and was losing weight. Sadly his family didn't even take him to a vet to find out why.
We were happy to take in Gunner and see if we could get him more comfortable. Through ultrasounds, CT scans, and specialist vet visits, we have found that Gunner has some GI disease and also a large liver tumor that was thought to be inoperable. Thankfully, after consulting with even more specialists, the large liver tumor was removed! Phew! Gunner has recovered well from his tumor removal, but still struggles with GI disease, which will require a lifetime of care and monitoring.

Cooper's owner passed away and he was initially sent to live with a friend who then surrendered him to Pacific Pug Rescue. Cooper's health had been neglected for a while, so once in our care he received a much needed dental which made him feel much better! Cooper is now very healthy, but he's quite grumpy with new people. With patience and kindness he does come around, but despite our best efforts, we could not find anyone willing to put in the time and effort needed to work with Cooper.
Cooper thinks that is just fine, because he really loves his foster mom and is quite happy to stay put!
